Jacobaea erucifolia is very similar to Jacobaea vulgaris and is found in similar habitats, but only in England, Wales and near Dublin in Ireland.

Jacobaea erucifolia is densely hairy when young (seen here with a young Senecio vulgaris for scale), but the hairs are soon lost as the plant grows.

The lower row of phyllaries (involucral bracts) are at least half as long as the upper row in Senecio erucifolius, unlike in Senecio jacobaea.
