In Heracium sect. Tridentata, the stem-leaves are all narrowed to a non-clasping base; the lowest leaves may be shortly petiolate.

Hieracium sect. Tridentata differs from H. sect. Hieracioides in lacking the recurved tips to the phyllaries.
