Orobanche rapum-genistae is a parasite of leguminous shrubs such as Cytisus scoparius and especially Ulex europaeus; it produces tall spikes of flowers, up to 60 cm high.

The corolla of Orobanche rapum-genistae has glandular hairs along its lower margin, and the stigma-lobes are initially bright yellow.
