Epilobium alsinifolium grows in or beside flowing water in the uplands of Scotland, northern England, North Wales and in the Dartry Mountains (VCH29: Leitrim); it has ovate, dentate leaves on its very sparsely hairy stems.

Like the narrower-leaved Epilobium anagallidifolium, Epilobium alsinifolium has seeds with a short appendage just below the pappus and reticulations on their surface.
