Pictorial guide to the flora of the British Isles
Rosa sherardii is a rose found across the British Isles, but rare in the south-eastern half of England; the prickles on its stems are slightly curved, unlike the straight prickles of Rosa tomentosa or the hooked prickles of other species.

The sepals of Rosa sherardii are persistent, lobed and tend to point forwards; the hips are fairly globose, with stalked glands.

The leaves of Rosa sherardii are ovate or elliptic, tomentose, rounded at the base, multiserrate with gland-tipped teeth, and have some glands on the lower surface.
