The tetraploid Agrimonia procera is more robust than the diploid Agrimonia eupatoria; it is most easily distinguished by the larger fruits, with the outermost row of spines pointing slightly backwards.

The vegetative differences between Agrimonia procera and Agrimonia eupatoria are subtler; the leaves of A. procera have more acute teeth, and its stems have only long hairs.
