Potentilla erecta is widespread and common, especially on acidic heaths and bogs; its yellow, 4-parted flowers separate it from our other Potentilla species, except Potentilla anglica and their hybrid, Potentilla × mixta.

As well as the widespread P. erecta subsp. erecta, upland areas can house P. erecta subsp. strictissima, with larger flowers, more of each leaflet toothed, and with longer teeth.
