Members of Rubus ser. Discolores have hardly any stalked glands on young stems, which are armed only with prickles on their angles.

Notable members of Rubus ser. Discolores include the only sexual species in the subgenus in our area – Rubus ulmifolius – and the introduced Rubus armeniacus.
