Crataegus laevigata is similar to Crataegus monogyna, but its leaves are much less divided, with veins that bend towards the apex, rather than away; it is mostly found in central and south-eastern England.

The flowers of Crataegus laevigata normally have 2 stigmas, whereas those of Crataegus monogyna almost always have only 1.
