Crataegus coccinea is a species from eastern North America, where it is known as the ‘scarlet hawthorn’ that is occasionally planted in southern Britain.

Crataegus coccinea is similar to Crataegus submollis, but is much less hairy on its leaves and flower-stalks, and often has fewer than 10 stamens in each flower.
