Nuphar lutea grows in slow-moving or stagnant water across most of the British Isles.

The bowl-shaped flowers of Nuphar lutea have up to 7 large yellow sepals, up to 25 (smaller) petals, up to 25 stigmatic lobes and up to 200 stamens.
