Trifolium occidentale is a low-growing coastal clover that is similar to the ubiquitous Trifolium repens; its leaves are, however, smaller and never have the white markings seen in T. repens.

In contrast to Trifolium repens, the corollas of Trifolium occidentale are creamy-white rather than pinkish, and have a clear notch in the tip of the standard (upper petal).
