The Dryopteris affinis aggregate includes D. affinis s.s., Dryopteris borreri and Dryopteris cambrensis.

 golden-scaled male-fern / Dryopteris affinis: The _Dryopteris affinis_ aggregate includes _D. affinis_ s.s., _Dryopteris borreri_ and _Dryopteris cambrensis_.

The dark patches at the base of each pinna are characteristic for the aggregate; within that group, Dryopteris affinis lacks the truncate pinnule-tips of Dryopteris borreri and the long, acute pinnule teeth of Dryopteris cambrensis.
