Leucojum aestivum is a common garden escape, but may be native to riverside meadows along a stretch of the middle River Thames, some of its tributaries and a few waterways in southern Ireland.

The flowers of Leucojum differ from snowdrops (e.g. Galanthus nivalis) in that all 6 tepals are of a similar size, and all 6 are marked with a coloured tip.
