Oenanthe lachenalii has up to 5 bracts at the base of the inflorescence; its stems are distinctly ridged (unlike Oenanthe fistulosa).

Some of the fruits of Oenanthe lachenalii are on (short) branches; they each have 2 persistent styles, distinctly shorter than the rest of the fruit (in contrast to Oenanthe pimpinelloides and Oenanthe silaifolia).
