Senecio cambrensis arose through autopolyploidisation of the hybrid between Senecio vulgaris and Senecio squalidus; it grows on kerbsides in North Wales and formerly in Leith.

The flower-heads of Senecio cambrensis have short ligules, and are large like those of Senecio squalidus, but cylindrical like those of Senecio vulgaris.
