Erigeron acris grows in well-drained shallow soils, in habitats such as sand dunes, railways, waste ground and on mortared walls.

The ligules of Erigeron acris are lilac and a few millimetres long; it will occasionally hybridise with the eligulate species of Erigeron that used to be in the genus Conyza.
