Hieracium sect. Cerinthoidea consists of species that grow in wet, rocky places in the mountains of northern England, Scotland and Ireland, and some coasts in northern Ireland and Scotland.

The few stem-leaves in Hieracium sect. Cerinthoidea are slightly glaucous and narrowly clasp the stem.

The whole plant is hairy, especially the upper stem, but it lacks the sticky glandular hairs found in Hieracium sect. Amplexicaulia.
