Cynoglossum germanicum is found in woodland margins over limestone or chalk from Tewkesbury (VC33: East Gloucestershire) to Sevenoaks (VC16: West Kent), but mostly in the Surrey Hills (VC17: Surrey).

The flowers of Cynoglossum germanicum are smaller than those of the more widespread Cynoglossum officinale.
