Erica erigena is similar to Erica carnea and their hybrid Erica × darleyensis; it is native to western Ireland and south-western continental Europe.

Like Erica × darleyensis but unlike Erica carnea, the flanges along the stem from the base of each leaf taper conspicuously; Erica erigena differs from the hybrid in being minutely hairy between those flanges.
