Atriplex halimus is a southern European species sometimes planted near the coast; it persists at various sites in England, mostly on the south coast, plus a site in Wales and one on the Isle of Man.

Unlike the native Atriplex portulacoides, the leaves of Atriplex halimus are all alternate, and the bracts are hardly fused.
